The desert rose is a common mineral formation in desert country. Colours fade from orange to yellow-ocher, this rose is an aggregate of chalk crystals that is formed in very specific environmental and climatic conditions. For its formation is required a shallow water table, a relatively shallow layer of chalk covered with sand and an arid climate. Chalk in contact with ground water and rain is partially dissolved and dates with water by capillarity. The desert temperatures evaporate water and cause the precipitation of gypsum crystals from the typical layout. The color depends on the inclusion of sand inside the crystal. The size of these crystalline aggregates vary from a few centimeters to several meters.
