Since the dawn of time, the Mandragora has been an indispensable element for the magical and spiritual practices of many cultures.
The Mandragora has a curious anthropomorphic aspect which, according to a legend, is derived from its belonging to the animal and plant kingdom together.
In pre-Islamic Arabia, it had the name of abu ‘lruh,“ lord of the vital breath ”or“ lord of the spirit ”, to underline the spiritual strength of the Mandragora and probably its identification with a divinity whose traces have now been lost.
Although the mandrake was also known by the Greeks and Romans (Circe was an expert connoisseur of her properties, and Virgil in the Aeneid associated her with Persephone) is only in the Middle Ages, with the return of the Crusaders from the Holy Land, which exploded the interest in the magic of mandrake. Since then the grimoires began to hand down their potential and the secrets hidden until then in the sands of the desert.
