The first available records about the dowsing pendulum date back more than 2,000 years before Christ, to Egypt. It was in the very sarcophagi of the Valley of the Kings that objects used as pendulums were found, as well as dowsing rods made of different materials and adorned with precious or semiprecious stones. There is no specific standard about the making of a pendulum, there are different types from the classic pyramid-shaped, to the more peculiar spherical-shaped, made of brass, crystal, silver, wood, gold, with or without a pendulum holder. The only essential thing is that the pendulum has a proper prospection to the table and the weight is not less than 12 grams. The length of the chain or rope from which it is suspended is not subject to any rule; be aware, however, that a chain that is too long tends to slow down the oscillations, while one that is excessively short accelerates them. We can say that for a pendulum weighing 12 grams, the ideal length is no more than 20 centimeters.<\/p>\n
